The Urban Farmer: Vegetables for Small Spaces

Date and time: Saturday, March 8 at 9:30 am

Have sun, can grow vegetables!  Learn how to select and care for vegetables in limited space and reap the tasty rewards!  Join guest speaker, David Johnson, for a lively, informative introduction to vegetable gardening for the city dweller.

Cost: $12 per person / $10 members

Plant Clinic

Date and time: Saturday, March 8 at 10:00 am until 2:00 pm

Do you have a plant that is sick, unidentified or not performing as you expected???  If so, then you will appreciate the Plant Clinic that is being offered to CBG members by the Columbus Master Gardeners.  In order to help the Master Gardeners help you, please bring a specimen that is adequate for evaluation.  If you need a plant identified, bring a branch or division of the plant.  A single leaf or small branch will not be adequate for proper identification.  If your plant is sick, collect samples from affected areas (enclosed in a plastic bag) and be ready to discuss what has been going on with the plant from watering to fertilization practices.

Bedding plants, herbs, vegetables and summer blooming bulbs will be available for purchase.  Arrive early for best selection

Herb Gardening 101

Date and time: Saturday, April 19 at 9:30 am

For the novice gardener, learn the basics of herb gardening including layout, plant selection and growing tips for best performance in Georgia soils and climate.  Free live herb plant for each participant.

Cost: $12 per person / $10 members

Rain Barrel Workshop

Date and time: Saturday, April 19 at 1:00 pm

Master Gardeners, Beverly Kinner and Martha Dimon, will walk you through the options, then help you make your own water retaining barrel.  Don't miss this opportunity to learn how to combat drought in a cost-effective way!

If you have ever wondered how to better use herbs in your cooking, this is the class for you!  Learn various preservation techniques and recipes for quick and easy herb flavorings and dressings, then sample a variety of tasty examples.  Each participant will make items to use in home cooking.

Custom stepping stones featuring botanical designs in relief are easy to create and provide endless decorative possibilities.  Join Amy Bryan with Columbus Technical College's Environmental Horticulture Program to learn the process of creating your own functional garden art.

Don't be afraid, be informed!  All woody plants need occasional pruning!  Understanding proper timing and technique will lead to improved plant health, performance and happiness!!  Join Matt Whiddon, President of Columbus in Color Landscape Group, for a homeowner's how-to on this important topic.

CBG's second annual fall art exhibit will showcase a variety of sculptures from miniature to grandiose, all consisting of natural materials.  Come see these unique sculptures to experience plants in a way that will change your perspective about both gardening and art.

Sculpture from the Garden

Date and time: Saturday, October 4 at 9:30 am

Join Columbus Botanical Garden's sculpture artists for a behind the scenes tour of the fall art exhibit, Art. Naturally.  Participants will learn about the materials and methods used to create sculpture from natural materials and have an opportunity to try some of the techniques in a take-home mini sculpture.
